Mechanical Low Back Pain

What is Mechanical Low Back Pain?

Mechanical is just a term referring to the proper movement and functioning of your back. Is your back functioning properly? Are your joints moving properly? (Really, is your spine moving properly?)

With Mechanical low back pain, a physical therapist wants to identify whether your bones and joints are moving properly. She wants to know that your bones and joints are not restricted and are able to properly function. Your physical therapist will also assess how well the tissues surrounding the low back and spine are functioning.

Mechanical can also refer to your bones not having too much arthritis. However, mechanical pain is generally used to refer to proper movement and functioning as a way of differentiating from other non-musculoskeletal causes of pain.
