Myofascial Release

Message From Owner

At Fyzical – Phoenix our focus is on treating the whole person, not just the symptoms they present with.  Twenty plus years of experience in the sports medicine community has led to a lot of trial and error with trends in the industry.  Being introduced to the John Barnes approach to MFR 11 years ago changed everything, simply because it worked and provided long term results vs temporary relief.  Patients’ tolerate it well, structure and posture are improved (sometimes dramatically), and pain is alleviated.

The John Barnes approach is often misunderstood, but for me, has proven to be the most effective form of structural bodywork that is safe and tolerated by all ages (infant to frail elderly).  As an aging athlete, it is what keeps me on the court competing.  Traditional MFR elicits more pain in the already tight, painful and dysfunctional tissue causing patients to tense up and protectively guard the very tissue you are trying to lengthen and stretch.  The John Barnes approach, on the contrary, utilizes light, sustained pressure eliciting the principles of the piezoelectric phenomena and mechanotransduction, affecting a biochemical response at the cellular level of the tissue, ultimately releasing the restrictions in the fascial system.  This allows the restoration of normal tissue length, a more sound posturing, and reduces the effects of gravity on abnormal/imperfect posturing.  Ready to give it a try?
